Tourist Avatars

The Tourist Avatar series was born from the idea that as a painter I travelled a lot, travelling all over the world and either taking my painting supplies with me or, if I couldn’t, taking lots of travel photos to use in my paintings. In fact, painting from photographs is always the more difficult, because in plain air you can see real colours all the time, but with a photograph you can only rely on your previous observations, so it requires a lot more routine.
The Tourist Avatar series is based on landscapes taken during travels, each one a specific painting. I have visited Italy and France many times, and these are typically the background for my travel pictures. They are paintings from several decades, many of which I had to digitally enhance afterwards. An interesting fusion of nalogue and digital art is the Avatar Tourist series.
